Deja Vu on so many levels!

Trivium’s new track from the yet to be released album has been leaked online and it’s not a bad taster at all!  This is a thoroughly enjoyable little number and will probably do quite well, but with no longevity.

It sounds like the boys are taking lessons from Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch Engage  (the Jessie years).  ’In Waves’ sounds like a typical early 2000s metalcore contribution, which invokes a nice feeling of nostalgia.  They do of course incorporate their signature Metallica style guitar solo and those little high pitched twangs throughout- this does nothing to update the track, but I feel attempting to do that could ruin it.

The final imitation that can be picked up on is the striking similarities of the chorus melody to that of Korn’s track “Thoughtless”.

All in all, I like the song, it’s enjoyable to listen to, it will probably make the odd appearance on the ipod for about a month…. However, it has no originality and feels like it has the staying power of a new pop song!  So due to this I can only give it 3/5!  What do you think?

My Rating: 3/5 Cats!
